The Classic
Rabbit R Hill Inn, Lower Waterford, Vermont
Nearly N midway between Cannon and Bretton Woods in New Hampshire
and a Burke Mountain in Vermont, the Rabbit Hill Inn pretty much defi nes
the t classic New England inn. For starters, it’s been an inn in tiny Lower
Waterford W
since 1795. For seconds, the white wooden buildings capture
all a that history. For mains, the food — from candlelit breakfast through
afternoon a
tea to apple-blackberry cobbler after dinner — is a taste-bud
treat. t And for dessert, innkeeps Leslie and Brian Mulcahy exude New
England E
hospitality; they’re that rare breed that was born to serve. For
extras, e the inn’s collection of Stave puzzles will drive you stark raving
mad. m In a good way, of course.

The T Round Barn Farm, Waitsfi eld, Vermont
Class C isn’t about always having the best. Rather, it’s about always making
the t very best of it. Regardless.
Take Waitsfi eld’s Round Barn Farm. The 1910 Shaker barn was collapsing
when the Simko clan began restoring it in 1988. They now use
it to host weddings, art shows and business conferences, recording
sessions… the works.
The original milking shed is now a sun-drenched, country kitchen/dining
room where you’ll want to linger a while longer over chef Charlie’s farmfresh,
localvore breakfasts. The stables, coach- and farmhouses now
contain 12 sumptuous suites, each unique and splendid… and most
with views of Sugarbush and Mad River Glen.
