Decades before efore Hannes Schneider brought the Arlberg technique to skiers in New Hampshire’s White Mountains,

The grandest st of the legendary grand hotels, this Spanish Renaissance behemoth regally presided over a broad valley

with Bretton Woods, a mile away, the hotel has become a winter resort as well. Ski the smooth boulevards of Bretton
Woods in the morning, do a wine-tasting in the afternoon, then dash to the heated outdoor pool. Sip single-malt scotch
in the Princess Lounge and sup like royalty in the octagonal main dining room, where no one has to sit in a corner. If
a four-course meal is too decadent — included in the room rate, so hard to turn down — there’s always crosscountry
