the ski area. With the word ‘resort’ on their minds, they envisioned Sugarbush
as “a gathering place for outdoors enthusiasts.” But fi rst they would need an
actual place to gather.
Phase I of Lincoln Peak Village opened in December 2006. The centerpiece
resembles one of those iconic barns, complete with silo, and is home to Clay
Brook: 61 luxury residences. The interior, if not glam, is classy and well built
— no hollow doors here. Outside, facing the slopes, there’s a heated pool and
hottubs. And on one end sits Timbers, a full-service restaurant open 365 days
a year for B-L-D.
The ’Bush needed beds. Badly.
Across the way, the airy post-and-beam Gate House Lodge is a welcome relief
from the former lodge’s clammy, cramped quarters. On its fi rst fl oor is a pub
and ski shop. Although it’s not a village in the sense of an Aspen or Telluride,
Lincoln Peak is bringing back families to the ‘Bush.
It has places to eat, drink and sleep well, and a pool and daycare a few steps
away. For skiers with kids, this is pretty much everything you want and need.
