TREND SPOTTING
Yes… The Boner jacket by Sessions looks just like those Halloween duds you
wore when you were six. But this skeleton is warmer and comes with a lot
more tricks: underarm venting, snapaway storm skirts, a stealth hem
drawcord. Lightweight and breathable, it’ll be in stores this fall for $170.

Ladies are hot
It’s a scientific fact. It’s a higher gradient of
temperature, not just those curves, that keeps
women hotter than men. Hotter in their body core.
But their fi ngers, nose and especially toes get
colder faster. Burton’s Supreme Heat with an
integrated Ther-mic heat system takes care of the
feet. So do Salomon’s Toasty Toes, with liners
made of faux fur.

While you spent the summer couch-surfi ng
or catching waves... back at the lab, snowsurfi
ng’s top scientists were cooking up the
goods for some clean winter carves.
Show us your topsheets
Finally, a way to look fast while standing still. Snowboard topsheets get
the tech-style this season with skateboard-infl uenced deck grips, glass,
hemp and even bamboo. Like K2’s Duchess Tekstyle,
a topsheet that’s scratch-resistant, water
repellent and lighter than anything the com-
K2 Duchess
pany has ever used.
FUTURE SLOT
Jake Burton may not have invented snowboarding,
but he got it right. Burton gets it right this year
with E.S.T, a binding-to-board, angle-and-stance
system that uses a channel built into the board to
make it easy to adjust. Three years in development,
it’s now free of kinks. Jeremy Jones is using it in his
pro model to rip the mountain like a skatepark.
The banana slip
Snowboarding’s mad scientists at Lib-Tech (and
sister-brand Mervin) pioneered everything from
Magna Traction’s steak-knife- serrated edges to
mutant, genetically engineered tree trunks. This year,
the Skate Banana (also a winner of a 2007 SnowPress
Innovation Award), integrates rocker (upside-down
camber) between the feet. The more you push, the
more you carve. Push less? You fl oat.
